Boeing Receives Delaware County Port Surveillance Contract
RIDLEY PARK, Pa., July 2011 -- The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] and the Delaware County Council today jointly announced that Delaware County has awarded the company a multiyear contract to provide an integrated surveillance system for the Delaware River’s north segment. Work on the $4.4 million contract will begin immediately.
“We are pleased to partner with The Boeing Company to significantly increase the ability of law enforcement to protect one of the most important waterways in our nation,” said Council Chairman Jack Whelan. “Here in Delaware County, the Delaware River runs close to the Philadelphia International Airport, two refineries, an interstate highway and major railroad lines. We also have a bridge over which 35,000 vehicles travel daily, all of which accentuates the importance of ensuring the security and safety of the county’s waterfront.”
Boeing will develop and install a suite of surveillance and monitoring systems to detect potential threats to key resources on the river. Implementation will focus on areas near the Commodore Barry Bridge, Marcus Hook and Hog Island. The company will be responsible for the design, procurement, installation, integration, testing and maintenance of the system, as well as training law enforcement and emergency services personnel in its use.
“Boeing understands the critical importance of protecting ports and waterways,” said Boeing Network & Space Systems President Roger Krone. “We are committed to continuing to direct our company’s experience and resources toward protection of this nation’s infrastructure and the free flow of commerce.”
The Boeing Phantom Works organization managed the advanced development and contract acquisition portion of the port surveillance program, and has transitioned it to Network & Space Systems for implementation.
