ARSA Congratulates House on Passage of FAA Bill

Legislation will Protect American Jobs and Ensure Aviation Safety

ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA April. 2011 – Aeronautical Repair Station Association (ARSA) Executive Director Sarah MacLeod released the following statement in response to the March 31 House passage of the FAA [Federal Aviation Administration] Reauthorization and Reform Act of 2011 (H.R. 658) by a bipartisan vote of 223-196. The legislation included ARSA supported provision on noncertificated maintenance (sec 315) and foreign repair stations (sec. 316).

“On behalf of ARSA and its more than 400 members, I would like to congratulate the House on its passage of the FAA Reauthorization and Reform Act. This version of the FAA bill will ensure more effective oversight of foreign and domestic repair stations, allow the industry to build on its outstanding safety record, and ensure the continued competitiveness of the U.S. maintenance industry.

“The legislation protects the 274,000 Americans employed in the industry and ensures the continued viability of its $39 billion annual contribution to the U.S. economy.

“The association encourages the conference committee to adopt the House’s commonsense language relating to noncertificated maintenance providers and foreign repair stations during the upcoming conference negotiations. ARSA and its members look forward to working with the House, Senate, and Obama administration in a bipartisan manner to quickly enact this bill into law and restore predictability to U.S. aviation policy.”
