Boeing Selects 5 Small Businesses to Support Houston Operations
HOUSTON, July 9, 2010 -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] has selected five small businesses to support its Houston-based International Space Station, Space Shuttle, and other site programs under the Boeing Engineering & Technical Services Support (BETS) contracts.
Boeing will award the BETS subcontracts to Anadarko Industries, LLC; Barrios Technology; GeoControl Systems Inc.; Mainthia Technologies Inc.; and Manufacturing Technical Solutions Inc. The contracts, effective Oct. 1, have a combined value of more than $100 million during a five-year period that includes a four-year base contract and a one-year option period in fiscal year 2015.
"This is an impressive group of companies chosen from 100-plus small businesses that competed for these contracts over a four-month selection process," said Russ Carroll, Boeing Space Exploration director of Supplier Management. "We chose these companies through a best-value, competitive procurement. All five have excellent reputations and bring tremendous value to Boeing."
The companies will provide the following support:
- Anadarko Industries, Houston: engineering systems support
- Barrios Technology, Houston: software support
- GeoControl Systems, Houston: program integration support
- Mainthia Technologies, Cleveland: safety and mission assurance support
- Manufacturing Technical Solutions, Huntsville, Ala.: logistics and maintenance support.
Boeing will transition the current contracts to the selected BETS suppliers over the next 90 days. The contract transition will impact approximately 175 to 200 employees at its Houston site. As with most contract transitions of this type, many of the incumbent work force are expected to transition to the new contractors by Oct. 1.
Boeing is the prime contractor to NASA for the International Space Station. In addition to designing and building all the major U.S. elements, Boeing also is responsible for ensuring the successful integration of new hardware and software – including components from international partners – as well as for providing sustaining engineering work for the station. Boeing also is a major subcontractor to United Space Alliance, the space shuttle operations contractor.
