EMBRAER DELIVERS EMBRAER 190 JET TO AIR MOLDOVA
Airline is first operator, worldwide, to fly the jet in a single-class, 114-seat layout
São José dos Campos, May 10, 2010 – Embraer delivered the first EMBRAER 190 jet to the
Moldovan flag carrier, Air Moldova, last May 6, at the Company’s headquarters in São José dos Campos, Brazil. The deal was announced in February 2008, and includes purchase rights
for another EMBRAER 190.
“Air Moldova is not a newcomer to the Embraer family, since the airline previously operated the EMB 120 Brasilia turboprop. It is truly significant to us to support them in their strategic growth plan,” said Paulo César de
Souza e Silva, Embraer Executive Vice President, Airline Market. “This delivery
underscores the fact that countries from the former Commonwealth of Independent States
(CIS) are in a dynamic region that presents great opportunities for regional air transport
development. Air Moldova can rely on our support to ensure the smooth introduction of
their new aircraft.”
Air Moldova’s EMBRAER 190 is the first to be configured in a 114-seat single-class layout.
The aircraft will serve the airline’s European and Middle East networks, operating from the
Moldovan capital of Chisinau.
“We look forward to introducing top-ranked aircraft in fuel efficiency and low operational costs to our fleet,” said Iulian Scorpan, CEO of Air Moldova. “The EMBRAER 190 is the cornerstone of our development strategy, by which we will operate the aircraft to open new routes, complementing the current narrowbody fleet and ensuring passenger comfort.”
About Air Moldova
Air Moldova is a State-owned airline founded in January 1993, becoming the de facto national
air carrier. From its hub at Chisinau International Airport, Air Moldova operates direct flights to
16 European destinations. In addition to scheduled passenger service, Air Moldova offers cargo
and mail transport, as well as charter flights. In fact, cargo transport is one of the airline’s key
activities, and Air Moldova has formed a number of international alliances to allow it to
guarantee the efficient delivery of goods by air almost anywhere in the world.
The airline has an excellent safety record and operational reliability. Air Moldova’s quality
system meets stringent European joint aviation requirements for commercial air transportation
(JAR-OPS) and civil aviation authority rules. Internal auditors are trained according to
international standards, in order to fully meet requirements and to provide passenger comfort
and safety, both in the air and on the ground.
Air Moldova has been a member of the International Air Transportation Association (IATA)
since 2004. In December 2008, the airline was included among the carriers that had passed an
IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA). For more information, visit www.AirMoldova.md.
About the EMBRAER 170/190 E-Jets family
The EMBRAER 170/190 family of E-Jets consists of four commercial jets with 70 to 122
seats, featuring advanced engineering design, efficient performance, outstanding operating
economics, low emission levels and a spacious cabin.
The E-Jets have a maximum cruising speed of Mach 0.82, can fly at 41,000 feet (12,497
meters), and have ranges of up to 2,400 nautical miles (4,448 km). The high degree of
commonality among the four aircraft – EMBRAER 170, EMBRAER 175, EMBRAER 190
and EMBRAER 195 – results in exceptional savings for carriers, in terms of crew training
and costs of spare parts and maintenance. Another key feature of the E-Jets is the state-ofthe-
art fly-by-wire technology, which increases operating safety, while reducing pilot
workload and fuel consumption.
The EMBRAER 170/190 family provides superior comfort with its double-bubble fuselage
design, which includes two main passenger entrances and two service doors that minimize
aircraft turn-around time. The E-Jets offer much more space for passengers, in a single or
dual-class layout, than other aircraft with similar seating capacities. For more information
about these jets, visit www.EmbraerCommercialJets.com.
The E-Jets have achieved outstanding success, with nearly 900 firm orders logged and
over 620 jets in operation, worldwide. They have accumulated more than 3.7 million
flight hours and transported 200 million passengers. This proven family is helping airlines
to right-size low load factor narrowbody routes, to replace older, inefficient airplanes, and
to develop new markets with lower operating costs, greater efficiency, and outstanding
passenger comfort. To better understand the benefits of these aircraft, when substituting
older jets, visit www.eforefficiency.com.
