Gulfstream's second generation enhanced vision system (EVS II) now is available for new and in-service G150 aircraft, following its July 1 FAA certification on the type.

FAA certified EVS II for large-cabin Gulfstream bizjets in late 2007. Gulfstream says the system is 22 lb. lighter and has four times the computational strength and memory of its original EVS, which was certified for the GV in September 2001.

The EVS II system, developed in cooperation with Kollsman, consists of a nose-mounted infrared camera that sends images to a 12 in.-by-10 in. LCD multi-function display. Operators select the image view using the G150's Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 menu; they then use Gulfstream's cursor control devices to turn EVS II on or off, adjust brightness/contrast and enable window heat to prevent ice formation.
