WASHINGTON, June 23, 2009 -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] discussed capabilities and opportunities with 21 Wales, UK-based companies June 22 at an Industrial Participation Outreach event held in Washington, D.C.

The event was part of the “Wales in Washington” Welsh Trade Mission to the United States, in cooperation with the Welsh Assembly Government. Boeing Industrial Participation and Supplier Management team members met with the small-to-mid-sized companies to discuss opportunities to join the growing base for Boeing’s defense business in the United Kingdom.

“Companies from across Wales learned about a variety of UK industrial participation programs, our technology sourcing process, and how Boeing focuses on long-term partnerships in order to gain competitive advantage,” said Brian Moran, director of Industrial Participation Programs for Boeing Defence UK. “Attendees also heard about our market assistance programs, which are designed to expose companies to Boeing, to our supply chain and to the U.S. Department of Defense.”

Boeing representatives also explained the company's supplier selection process, with a focus on requirements, certifications and expectations.

The afternoon included a series of short one-on-one sessions during which the Welsh company representatives presented their capabilities and interests to Boeing officials from across the company.

“This has been a great opportunity for the participating companies to learn about us, but it’s an even better opportunity for Boeing to learn about them,” Moran said.

A wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company supporting Integrated Defense Systems, Boeing Defence UK Ltd. currently has employees at 20 locations throughout the United Kingdom supporting Ministry of Defence and U.S. military programs.

A business unit of The Boeing Company, Boeing Integrated Defense Systems is one of the world's largest space and defense businesses specializing in innovative and capabilities-driven customer solutions, and the world's largest and most versatile manufacturer of military aircraft. Headquartered in St. Louis, Boeing Integrated Defense Systems is a $32 billion business with 70,000 employees worldwide.
