V2500 Achieves New On-Wing Record

By Bill Burchell/AviationWeek.com

A US Airways V2500 engine has set a new time on wing record, completing 30,520 flying hours on its first run. This is the third time a US Airways engine has surpassed 30,000 hours before being removed for its first scheduled overhaul, and it breaks the previous IAE time on wing record, also held by a US Airways engine.

The V2500-A5 engine, which was installed on an Airbus A319 in December 2000, had completed nearly 12,000 cycles since new, operating primarily out of Phoenix, Ariz., on routes within the U.S. as well as Mexico and Latin America.

US Airways operates a fleet of 94 V2500-powered A320 family aircraft and has selected the IAE engine for a further 74 firm aircraft on order. More than 5,500 V2500 engines are in service or on firm order with more than 170 customers around the world.
