Sikorsky Aircraft and Aero Vodochody said they have signed a memorandum of understanding agreeing to "jointly explore aerospace industry cooperation in Central and Eastern Europe."
The action is the latest in a series of moves following acquisition of PZL Mielec in 2007 in which Sikorsky is expanding its efforts in Europe.
Aero Vodochody produces airframe components for the S-76 model, which is, according to Igor Hulak, that company's president, its largest aerostructures program. Sikorsky's Mielec affiliate will manufacture the S-70i Black Hawk, a version intended for international markets.
Aero Vodochody produced airframes for development phases of the S-76D, which recently made its first flight. Together with over 200 suppliers, the firm assembles S-76 airframes pre-stuffed with electronics and avionics, hydraulics and fuel system for overland transport to Germany and eventual shipment to Sikorsky for completion.
At the signing of the MOU, the two companies celebrated the 250th S-76 airframe to emerge from the production line at Aero Vodochody.
