ORD Project Gets Nod For $182 Million

Mar 2, 2009

The O’Hare Modernization Program (OMP) has won approval from FAA to use

Passenger Facility Charges (PFCs) to fund $182 million for airfield design and terminal planning.

The money will be used to prepare construction-ready design drawings for the remaining airfield elements of the OMP, including Runway 9C-27C, Runway 10R-28L, Runway 9R-27L extension and the Western Terminal Planning Study.

FAA has already approved two $4.50 passenger facility charge (PFC) applications totaling $1.12 billion to pay for runway projects and land acquisition under OMP (DAILY, Sept. 6, 2007).

The majority of the money was used for the new Runway 9L/27R, the extension of Runway 10L/28R and the relocation of Runway 10C/28C, while another $270 million was used for land acquisition, and $8 million for a project with Gary-Chicago International Airport.
