Global 5000 blasts through fence at Wichita test site

By Kate Sarsfield

A Bombardier Global 5000 test aircraft crashed into the blast fence at the airframer's facility in Wichita, Kansas on 20 January while conducting static engine ground runs. There were no injuries to the crew on board.

Bombardier has not disclosed how the super large business jet broke loose but says this is the first time this type of incident has ever occurred. The aircraft was left in position overnight, the manufacturer says, and removed the following day.

An internal investigation has been launched to uncover the cause of the incident and the US Federal Aviation Administration has been notified, Bombardier says.
